How do I book Healing Kitchen for my event?

 

Do you have a special occasion in mind?  Click on the "Get Custom Quote" button on the Catering page and let us know a few details about your event.  You will be contacted within 36 hours to go over menu options.  We'll generate a custom quote for 3 meal options.  All the menu is completely adjustable.  If you like what you see then we'll make it official by sending you an invoice, contract and request for payment.  We require a 50% deposit to hold your date on our calendar.  

 

What are your payment options?

 

We Accept Checks, Credit/ Debit Cards via SquareApp, Venmo and Cash App

 

What's your refund policy?

If you have signed a contract for catering services please refer to our refund policy outlined in that agreement.

If you have not signed a contract for catering, but are dissatisfied with our services please contact immediately at 510-356-7866.  We are invested in providing our customers and clients with the highest quality of food and service. 

Is there a difference between Vegan and Plant-based Diets?

 

There is a difference, but most people use the terms interchangeably (we often do).  A Vegan is someone that doesn't consume any animal meat or animal-derived foods like dairy or eggs and in some cases honey.  There are also political Vegans that fight for animal rights and opt out of wearing leather and fur.  Someone with a plant-based diet isn't necessarily political or opts out of consuming animal meats and animal-derived foods (though they might), but the majority of their diet focuses on fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and no or very few process foods.

For example: A vegan could eat soy meats and cheeses, chips and drink soda, however a person with a plant-based diet might limit or eliminate these foods.  

What is Afro-Vegan Plant-Based Cuisine?

 

Its Healing Kitchen's unique culinary style/ menu where we prepare traditional dishes found throughout the African Diaspora* (shrimp and grits, gumbo, peanut stews and curry sauces) and make them with farm fresh, organic and nutrient-dense ingredients.  80% of our produce is locally sourced from farms and gardens right here in Northern California.    

 

*The African Diaspora refers to the shared culture, foods and experiences of peoples from Africa, the Caribbean Islands, the American South, Afro-Latin American and Afro-Asia.   

Does Healing Kitchen make any dishes with "real" meat... from animals?  

 

Healing Kitchen doesn't.  However, we partner with amazing caterers all over the Bay Area that do.  When we come together we provide our clients with an incredible five-star culinary experience with tons of surprises. The Good Kinds, lol 

 

 

Why are vegan and plant-based diets so popular right now?

 

Veganism and plant-based diets are quite the phenomena of the 2000s, though it's been around for almost a century (by name).  We suspect that it's growing popularity is due to 

1) The media exposure of poor practices in the U.S. meat packing industry. 

2) There are more educational resources that are highlighting the health benefits of diets high in fresh produce and lower fat ie. the vegan diet. 

3) The growing roster of celebrities that have vegan diets and promote veganism.

 

We promote a plant-based diet because we think it's an absolutely delicious way to eat and live, and it's health benefits are out of this world!    

 

What do you use for protein?

 

Beans, nuts, seeds, pea-protein meats, tofu, seitan, grains and lots and lots of veggies 

How do I know if I need a Meal Plan or Meal Prep?

 

We believe everyone (adult, child & infant) needs a Meal Plan.   It's a critical part of being in control of our health and our bodies.  Meal Plans help us make good decisions about what to eat, how much to eat when to eat, and they show us how to be flexible while staying on track with our goals.  It's not just for fat loss or muscle gains, it's also for maintenance, recovery, balance, and prevention. 

 

Meal Prep is a daily or weekly practice of portioning food based on the amount of calories you are looking to consume per day. This is usually done by batch cooking, weighing and storing different meals in food storage containers.     

 

How do I join Meal Prep Club?

 

1) We support local economies and sustainable business practices, so we do not ship or truck our Meal Prep packages.  Do you live or work in the SF Bay Area? If yes, excellent you're in the right place! If you are outside of the SF Bay Area, we can support you with custom meal planning services that teach how to do your own custom meal prep and/ or you can support another local meal service in your area.  

 

2) Click the "Join Meal Prep Club" button to get more information about our weekly meal service.  If you think Meal Prep Club is right for you then complete our registration form and look out for a confirmation email within 36 hours.  No payment is required until you receive confirmation that your space is reserved.

 

How do I get my FREE Meal Plan consultation?

 

We're offering up to 100 Free Consultations until 2020.  Sessions last about 15-20 mins and cover everything from protein recommendations, macros, nutrition, plant-based lifestyle, your health, fitness or physique goals and how our custom meals plans can support your needs.

 

Is transitioning to a vegan or plant-based diet difficult? 

 

This is the most common question we get, but our answer might be quite underwhelming...

 

It depends.  It depends on your genetics, body type, access to plant-based products and fresh produce, pickiness, openness, macronutrient needs, culinary traditions and schedule.  Yup, everyone is very different. Some people are ready and have done extensive research.  Others go cold turkey and do great.  And some others struggle to get out of the soy trap.  If you have questions or need support get a free consultation and we can share with you some of our best practices and recipes.  Otherwise, Google and YouTube are excellent resources.
